We've had a great summer here at the Demopolis Public Library. In July we circulated 6,514 items in the library! Our computers were accessed 1,684 times and we added 110 new patrons. The staff has been busy! We had 908 children attend our 19 children's summer reading programs, with 182 registered. The teen night in June went great. We watched Alice in Wonderland and had 18 teens attend. A total of 24 registered for the summer reading program.
The adult summer reading program was a huge success! Anner, Sandy, and Robin did a great job. We had 80 adults attend our 5 adult programs, with 50 adults register for the program. Carol Glass taught a gardening class and everyone left with freebies! You really missed out if you missed this program and our "Yak and Snak".
I read I'm Down by Mishna Wolff this summer. This book is laugh out loud funny! Another librarian recommended it after seeing it on Good Reads. It's a page turner. The front jacket cover will get you hooked! It will make you want to curl up with a glass of grape Kool Aid! It's the Glass Castle meets Run DMC.
ReplyDeleteI am reading Garden Spells again. It has become one of my favorite books. Filled with surprises, it's just good reading. The author is Sarah Addison Allen.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy reading books by Kathy Marie Hake. While exploring Camellia Net I ran across a title that I had previously read but decided to try listening to. I thoroughly loved it all over again! It was neat hearing the different accents read aloud. If you haven't read Hake or browsed Camellia (Overdrive) I recommend both.
ReplyDeleteI downloaded and listened to one of my favorite authors Jen Lancaster from Overdrive's Camellia Net. It was the title Pretty In Plaid:
ReplyDeleteA Life, a Witch, and a Wardrobe, or, the Wonder Years Before the Condescending, Egomanical, Self-Centered Smart A** Phase. We actually don't have this book in our library, so it was ideal to download it. I listened to while cutting grass and on the StairMaster-two things that I detest. She's is a funny and witty lady and made the time fly by. If you like sarcasm and are ready for a laugh, I recommend any of Jen Lancaster's books. DPL has 3 of her titles. Also check out Celia Rivenbark. She's a southern riot!
I just finished Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. It is a very interesting story. The library has the book and the playaway(grab them both, I did). The playaway gives the chapters so you can easily go from one to the other.
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading Substitute Me. It was a good easy book to read. It got to be predictable after the conflict was brought out. it was bout a first time mother who hires nanny and goes back to work worry free, for a while.
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading Deep Dark Secrets by Kimberla Lawson Roby. It was good, but it dealt with child molestation issues and what may happen to the child if it is not reported in a timely manner. It really made you think twice, since I have a daughter about the same age as the victim in the book. I don't know if enough is being done to bring awareness to this subject.
ReplyDeleteHave you read Sundays at Tiffanys by James Patterson. The movie is on Lifetime tonight @ 8.
